IN SEARCH OF THE GREAT GOD

AND the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth” Genesis 11:1-4

Each time I study this verse of the Scripture, a cluster of thought congests my mind. What were these people actually thinking when they made this decision? What level of intelligence would they have possessed? What resources were within their reach that made them think they could actually achieve this aim? The answers to these questions, though literal, are mysterious and could not be fathomed by basic human knowledge. Now let’s take a tour…

Man, since his excommunication from the Garden of Eden, had been looking for a means of returning back to God. Man had been looking for a way to return back to his first estate where he enjoyed God’s riches to the fullest and had peace of mind. The Garden of Eden is a place of comfort where man don’t have to bother himself with the mundane things of this world neither do man worry himself with what to eat or wear since God had readily made these things before man was even created. Man remembered Eden and was saddened, so he tried as much as possible to return to his creator. The tragedy is that the connection is broken- no more transmission.

Man instituted various models and media for connecting to his Creator but were all to no avail. This is the origin of religion. Man’s initiative for pleasing God- known as religion, failed.  Man was searching for the True God but could not find Him though he knew God exists. The frustration was what triggered those ancient men and they, peradventure, said “Let’s go and meet that God in heaven if He’s not coming to us” They made the move, gathered the resources needed and started working out their vision. What I love most in those men is their spirit of unity and cooperation. They would have done what they determined, at least to some extent, if not for the intervention of Heaven. But the truth is that they wouldn't have succeeded. Let’s look at it this way…

*The Space which is believed to be the entrance (or a path) to heaven is limitless. It has about seven layers (Atmosphere, stratosphere, troposphere, mesosphere, etc.) which are all about 800 meters away from one another. I don’t think the tallest building in the world is as high as that.

The Scripture says in Isaiah 55:6 “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near” This scriptural reference teaches us that God can be as close to us as our hearts. Could this be true?

1st Corinthians 3:17 says “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” This verse of the Scripture is an affirmation to what Isaiah said. God lives in you if you believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. “For ye are the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus” Galatians 3:26

“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him” John 14:23

Knowing God is not about you being religious or having a religious title- Pastor, Reverend, Bishop, Apostle, Imam, Sheikh, Al ’haji, Monk, Nun or Oluwo, it’s about you having the Spirit of Christ, which is the Spirit of God, resident in you (Romans 8:9).

Do you want to know God more? Then accept Christ into your life by following these simple steps…
  • ·         Repent from all known sins
  • ·         Ask God to forgive you and show you mercy
  • ·         Believe that Jesus can save you
  • ·         Then say this short prayer

“Lord Jesus, I come to you today. I believe you as the Only Begotten Son of God who came to take away my sins. From today, I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Save me from sin. Build my faith in you and make me to know you more. Write my name in the book of life and help me to follow you dearly. Amen”

If you have made that decision to follow Christ, I want to encourage you to continue in this faith by fellowshipping with the children of God on a regular basis (Hebrews 10:25), praying always with the name of Jesus (Philippians 2:10) and giving heed to the word of God (Colossians 3:16). I pray that God will reveal Himself to you and make you to know Him more in Jesus’ name.

A HOPE FOR A NEW LIFE

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them
which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh,
but after the Spirit” Romans 8:1
Many at times, people think worse of themselves. Some see themselves as being rejected, forsaken or abandoned. The opening scripture here says “There is therefore NO CONDEMNATION…” This is the voice of hope for a new life speaking to you. The word “Condemnation” can also be interpreted as blame, disapproval, criticism, attack, displeasure, guilt, and blameworthiness. All these synonyms are negative words- Words that portray unacceptability.

Lots of people today are living with condemnation. Many see themselves as not approved, thinking they have nothing to offer for the betterment of the society. They so much look down on themselves that they forget what treasure God has deposited in them- they are not cognizance of that inbuilt potential that needs to be maximized. Some face criticism by almost everyone they trusted, disappointment and frustration is just at peak for them. Many relationships had crumbled because trust is no more. A lot of people are suffering from the guilt of sin- whether presumptuous, beseeching or outright.

It is quite disheartening to know that many even stopped attending places of worship because of the condemnation they’ve invoked upon themselves. “Excusing yourself from the place of worship because you feel condemned or rejected is like running away from your doctor because you are sick”

Whatever forms you are entertaining condemnation in your life, whether it is the feeling of rejection by family or unacceptability by the society, or the guilt of sin, it is important to know at this time that there is a hope for a new living. There is a hope to start living the life God wants you to live right now. Remember He said “I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” Jeremiah 29:11. There is an expected end; a desire to fulfil purpose; a vision to be accomplished. God knew these things even before you know them and that is why He wants to refurbish your hope. He wants you to live your real life and become what you are predestined to be.

However, just as the scripture had rightly said, it is only those who are in Christ Jesus that will not be condemned. This simply means, you can only find the hope for a new life in Christ Jesus. No wonder Jesus said in John 14:6 that “…I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life…” The truthful way to have a new life is by coming to Jesus and accepting Him into your life to be your Lord and Saviour. The Scripture says “…Christ in us the HOPE of glory..”

Have you accepted Christ as your Lord and Saviour? If yes, I must congratulate you for your decision and I must also admonish you to continue in this faith you’ve so found that you may receive “that crown of Glory”. If you are yet to accept Christ into your life, it is better you do so now so that the lost hope can be restored. Say this short prayer…

“Lord Jesus, I come to you today. I believe you as the Son of God who came to take away my sins. Today I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Give me a new life and Write my Name in the Book of Life. Give me also the Holy Spirit to guide me. Amen”

If you’ve prayed that short prayer, I congratulate you and welcome you to the Kingdom of our Great God.  Halleluiah!

BECOMING A SUCCESS

Becoming successful is what everyone looks forward to in everything they do. Though, sometimes seem impossible to be successful due to challenges and circumstances surrounding our pursuit, it is important to know that nothing, absolutely nothing, is impossible to be achieved if indeed we want to.
Across history, we read about men and women of great impact. People who set their heart toward a thing and got it done; people who purposed in their heart to achieve a thing and it was so; people who had dreams, pursued it earnestly and made it a reality.
We heard of great inventors such as Thomas Alvan Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford, Charles Babbage, Isaac Newton amongst others. These are men who became successful in their endeavour. Even in the business, academic and Information Technology (I.T) world, we can mention some prominent men and women who, we can boldly say, are successful in what they do.
These greatly successful men did not just wake up in a day and become successful. There are challenges also faced by them. However, despite the challenges and odds, these men have some things in common which made them what they are (or were) today. Some of these is what I shall discuss in this article.

VISION OR PURPOSE
I would like to start by saying "The most miserable man on earth is not the one without a sight but the one without a VISION" Even the Holy Bible says "...Where no vision is, the people are destroyed"  This is essentially true because when you lack vision, you lack a sense of direction. It is your vision that will drive you and propel you towards a single direction thereby making you non-purposeless. Imagine if the four tires of a vehicle has to go different ways because their is no proper harmonizing. What do you think will happen? The vehicle will only remain at one spot- going nowhere.
Vision is that purposeful end you want to have in life. When you have a vision, their is proper harmonization of all gifts, skills and talents within you to achieve and fulfill your vision just like the four tires are harmonized to move toward the same direction.

"When you don't have a direction, you will be led by anyone"   E.O Michael
“Make your vision so clear that your fears become irrelevant.” Anonymous
“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.” Jonathan Swift

PASSION
Passion has been defined by Wikipedia as "a feeling of intense enthusiasm towards or compelling desire for someone or something" Passion can range from eager interest in or admiration for an idea, proposal, or cause; to enthusiastic enjoyment of an interest or activity; to strong attraction, excitement, or emotion towards a person.
One thing that drove those great men to their "Promised Land" is passion. It is the fuel that powers your vision. Passion is that in-burning desire to fulfill your vision. When there is passion you would not see any difficulty or challenge that may come your way in the course of fulfilling your purpose in life. Even if those challenges will come, which is normal- there's no always smooth sailing because the storm is part of what makes the sea, you will neither be bothered nor discouraged by them. You will only see them as stepping stones to fulfilling your purpose.

"Passion is the 'Reviving Fire' of a vision"    E.O Michael

COMMITMENT
It is important to know at this moment that being passionate alone cannot earn you success. Your level of success is not only a function of your desires or enthusiasm but also a function of your commitment. Commitment, from the word 'commit', means to give your totality (or of something) to achieve a thing (or to someone). That is to say, you cannot be successful if you are not ready to give your whole self to the fulfillment of your vision.
Commitment is all about sacrificing. To be a successful fellow in whatever you are doing, whether as a student or as a career person, you must be ready (to some extent) to sacrifice your time and your resources (financial and non-financial). Reading at night, spending your little money to buy books, going from one tutorial to another are parts of the sacrifices you must pay as a student who want to be successful academically. To the career person, you may have to spend your holiday (or work leave) doing research and making connections. All these are part of commitment. They are sacrifices that must be paid to be a Success in that vision.

"Without commitment, your dream will only remain a Nightmare"   E.O Michael
“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.” Joel A. Barker
“Vision without execution is hallucination.” Thomas Edison

PERSISTENCE
While commitment is about giving all it takes to fulfill your vision or dream, persistence is the fact of continuing in an opinion or course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. Challenges will come, persecution may arise but a determined heart will overcome them all. For you to be a Success, you must keep pursuing your vision in spite of  difficulties or challenges that may arise. Don't ever give up on your dream no matter what. Pursue earnestly.

TEAM WORK
I need you to understand that it's not everyone that will support your vision. As it is important to work with people to be fulfilled in whatsoever one is doing (no man can do it all), it is also pertinent to know that without the right set of people, you will be heading nowhere.
When you have a vision or dream, source for like-minds and work relatively with them. This is a great way of expanding the scope of your vision and getting things done more effectively.
Consider the short definition of team as this:
Together   Everybody   Achieve   More

If you can work with these basic principles, I have no doubt in my heart that you will end up being a SUCCESS.

10 SECRETS OF A SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIP

Everyone wants a relationship but not
everyone knows or understand the key things
to make it very successful. Every relationship
needs a lot of things to make it work. Apart
from love, patience and being each other’s
best friends, listed below are some of the key
secrets of every successful relationship:

#1. CLEAR COMMUNICATION IS “VERY”
IMPORTANT

Everybody talks but not everybody
communicate. When two people communicate,
a clear message is passed and understood but
talking is putting string of words together
with no clarity. Couples who always shout at
each other do not have a healthy relationship
because the message they are trying to pass to
the other person is not done properly. Every
couple must know how to talk to the other
person. Study him/her properly to know how
to say certain things. Timing also is very
important when communicating with your
partner. Also have in mind that your partner
is not a mind reader or a superman that
knows everything. Say what is on your mind
and never pile up grudges in your mind
waiting for the right time to pour it all out.
Arguments and fights are prevented when
couples communicate clearly with each other.

#2. EVERYONE HAS A BAD DAY, SOMETIMES

There are days we wake up very cranky and
in a very sour mood. It gets really bad that we
often like to stay alone and not have anyone
disturb us. On days like that, your partner
will be at his worst and you have to
understand he has something bothering him.
Go to him and ask him what the problem is.
His mood swing may be as a result of
something that happened to him at work or
pressure from family, friends or his boss. If
he doesn’t want to talk about it, leave him
alone and let him sort his emotions out. Do
not take it personal when he says he wants to
be alone.

#3. FORGIVE HIM AS YOU WILL FORGIVE
YOURSELF

It is very easy to forgive ourselves when we
do some things we promised not to do again
but it is not so easy to do the same for others
especially when it is someone we love and
trust. Putting yourself in his shoes can help
you understand why he did certain things.
Understand that a person’s mistake doesn’t
outrightly convict him as a terrible person.
For every time you want to push him away,
always ask “what if it was me?”.

#4. PRIVACY IS ESSENTIAL

There is nothing wrong with letting everyone
know you are in love and posting pictures of
both of you on social networks but there is
everything wrong if we know every single
detail about your relationship. When all the
details of your relationship is known by
everybody, your relationship may be in grave
danger. Keep your private business, very
private. Keep outsiders guessing what is going
on in your relationship.

#5. NO FIGHTING IN PUBLIC OR IN FRONT OF
YOUR FRIENDS

It is normal for every couple to quarrel, once
in a while. It is an indispensable part of every
healthy relationship but it is bad to quarrel in
front of other people. Fighting in front of
friends, families or colleagues say the wrong
things about the both of you. It may also make
you both lose your integrity and self worth.
No matter how great the urge to fight is, do
not do it in public. Take it to your car or wait
till you get home.

#6. BE TOTALLY COMMITTED

Couples who can rely on each other every
time have long lasting healthy relationships
and that can only happen when you both are
dedicated to each other. When you are
committed to your partner, it becomes easy to
do things for each other without complaining
and you wont hurt your partner because you
are so committed into making the relationship
a happy one.

#7. KINDNESS IS NEVER OVERRATED

Everyone appreciates an act of kindness. Be
kind to your significant other. Do not wait for
him to get you stuff or do something for you
before you reciprocate. If he does not
appreciate your act of kindness or always take
advantage of it, you should break up with
him. Kindness breeds understanding between
two couples which is a key ingredient to a
successful relationship.

#8. YOU CAN STILL HAVE FRIENDS

The fact that you are in a relationship doesn’t
mean you cant have friends. It is good to keep
friends and hang out with them. You need to
keep your relationship fresh by giving
yourselves space. Keep up with your friends
and family, all the time.

#9. LAUGHING IS THE BEST MEDICINE

Laughing is an anti-depressant and also anti-
anxiety drugs. The best part is that, it is very
inexpensive and does more wonders than any
man-made drugs. Couples that laugh together
very often have a longer lasting relationship.
Laughter bonds couples together, a lot.

#10. KEEP THINGS ALWAYS FRESH

No relationship is too old for date nights and
surprises. Take yourselves out as often as you
can. Plan surprise dinners and romantic
getaways. Keep things alive by doing things
that attracted him to you in the first place. Do
not get too comfortable and neglect chances
to make your spouse happy.

Seek after Revelation

"The King answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret" Daniel 2:47
Revelation is the advanced stage of Doctrine. Doctrine only makes you a religious person but revelation through the Holy Spirit will make you know who God really is.
Revelation, from the word "Reveal", means to make a hidden secret known. There are lots of secrets about the being of God and His creatures of which His Spirit alone can make it known to those who seek after it.

If you really want to grow as a Christian, you must pursue "Revelational Knowledge".

USEFUL BUT WORTHLESS

I love my room for many things: the paint on the wall; my beautiful wallpaper which gives me happy memories anytime I look at it; my table and chair- my place of inspiration; my bed - my wonderful companion that keeps me company all night. Lest I forget my hanger- the pillar that holds my clothes of many colours.

However there's one thing in my room that I’m not proud of and that is my rag which I often use to clean dirt on the floor. Although, it is useful at times but it is worthless. Hence I have relegated it to the background from visitor's view.

In my reflection I discovered that many people like rags, they are useful but worthless. They are used, misused, abused and dumped because there's no value placed on them.
Many employees, slaves, prostitutes, assassins, thugs, hypocrites, lazy and the poor belong to this category who are captives of abject poverty, ignorance, unemployment and pride. The society does not recognize them. Not for who they are but for what they are. These groups of people settle for the crumbs that fall from the rich men's table.
I opine they are not victims of fate, but products of their inner world.

”What you think you become. If you don't have great plans for yourself you'll end up achieving someone else's plan”.

Let me ask you. Are you a rag? Are you useful but worthless? Does your opinion count? Are you ridiculed and not respected? Does your life emit a negative signal to the world? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, you need to
#CHECKYOURSELF and
#CORRECTYOURLIFE.

It's up to you to make your life valuable.

THE POWER OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP

Praise and worship are powerful forces employed for spiritual services. Literally, praise and worship refers to the act of showing admiration and respect to God or gods.

However, I would define praise or worship as a spiritual exercise which involves singing, clapping, dancing, humming, drumming and/or eulogizing in order to evoke the presence or power of a deity and/or his agents.

One important spiritual tool that can be employed in order to connect to the firmament of God’s power speedily is praise or worship. It is the fastest link between God and man especially in times of prayer.

Praise or worship is a powerful tool which, amongst other things, serves the following purposes:
1.     It is the motivating force of every deity
Nothing pleases God more than singing praise or worship to Him. In the Hebrew tongue, praise or worship can be interpreted as Yadah which means to throw out hands unto God in praise. This also means celebrating the acts of God and glorifying His name. When we appreciate God by praising Him for what He’s done, He would not be constrained in doing greater things for us.
After the Israelites were delivered out of the hands of Pharaoh, king of Egypt in Exodus 14, they show forth their gratitude by singing a song unto God who has set them free from bondage of four hundred and thirty years.
Their act of gratitude made God to continue in His promises concerning them even in the wilderness.
The only way to make God regard our words is when we are addicted to praising Him.

“The reason why many are grounded today is because they take God for granted”

2.     It is a soul lifter
James 5 verse 13b says “…is any merry? Let him sing psalms” praise or worship is a divine force which has the potential of removing every burden of the heart thereby making a heart full of joy which in turn activates supernatural strength in our soul.
When faced with divers challenges or having a burden on our soul, the right step to take is to engage in praise or worship.

3.     Medication for divine healing
In 1st Samuel 16:14-23, Saul, the first king of Israel, was tormented by an evil spirit which made him lost consciousness whenever the torment comes.
This was an affliction of Saul’s soul which made him mentally derailed. However, when David, who later became his successor, played instrument of harp and sing praises to God, Saul regained his consciousness.

When you are sick or weak, whether medically or spiritually, the first dose to take is songs of praises or worship to God because He is the God that heals all diseases. Exodus 15:26, Jeremiah 30:17, Isaiah 53:5

4.     Supplement to God’s word Jeremiah 15:16
God’s word is powerful and is able to do the impossible. It is even sharper than any two-edged sword. In Colossians 3:16, the Bible says “Let the word of Christ dwell richly in you…” then in addition to that, it says “… singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord”. While you’re using the word, support it with singing. Not just songs but with spiritual songs.

5.     A yoke-breaking force  Acts 16:25-26
Paul and Silas had been detained in prison for days without trial but at the eve of their ordeal, they switched their mode of communication with God. Prayer had not been working for them probably because they had been praying amiss. When they got the understanding of how powerful praise and worship is, they switched to it. And guess what? It worked this time.

“You can pray amiss but you cannot praise God amiss because He takes it in any form”

6.     Habitation of God
As great as God is, He doesn’t live outside a 'praiseful environment'. God inhabits the praises of His people. Therefore anyone who loves praising God is always qualified as a carrier of divine presence.
The presence of God is the most important thing a Christian must crave for.

“Life outside His presence is full of pestilence”.

Have you ever wondered why the numerous angels in heaven do nothing than to praise Him? That’s because God dwells within our praises.

Learn to always be grateful to God by singing praises unto Him.
